Pay Attention. You can afford it :)

La Dolce Vita Vintage Tee in Cream. 30 bucks. Buy it here.

Ryan Grant, the creator of La Vita clothing is actually a friend of mine. However, I didn't post this because of that. I generally love this shirt and I've loved it for a long time.

Leather in the summer. Silk in the winter.

My favorite designer looks for spring thus far are from Oscar de la Renta. So girly, with all the flowers and pastels. Audrey Hepburn-esque. I love, LOVE, LOVE it. My favorite piece is look 45, the azalea silk faille one shoulder gown with rosette detail at hip. A picture of orange perfection. (view it here.) Now, finding 6 grand so I can purchase it is the real task at hand. Cheerio.

The Mixture of Church and State and its

Effect on Homosexual Americans

The United States of America is supposed to be a place where citizens can receive “liberty, freedom and pursuit of happiness”, according to The United States Declaration of Independence. However, the background that America has can sometimes get in the way of some citizen’s ability to achieve these things. Throughout history, there have always been groups of people that were not able to live by this saying. For example, the Native Americans at the countries founding, Japanese Americans during WWII and African Americans from slavery all the way to the Civil Rights movement. At the moment, the group that’s facing the most persecution are people of homosexual orientation. While they have been ill treated by some through out history, the most recent problem they face is due to the mixing of church and State, or involving Christianity as far as government policies are concerned. Same sex marriages are banned in the U.S. , thus making it virtually impossible for homosexual Americans to pursue the “happiness” they would achieve from being able to form a union with their significant others.

While most people that are against gay marriage have ideology based on religion, there is not supposed to be any religious involvement in the law. The root of this problem is the deep Christian background that the United States has. This affects homosexuals more than it affects any other persecuted group in the U.S. . No matter what anyone says, there is nothing in the bible that says it is wrong to be Asian, African American, or Indian. But, there are scriptures alluding to the fact that homosexuality is wrong. This is the very thing that is hindering them from achieving their right to marry even though it shouldn’t. Government policy “technically” doesn’t mix with religion. But as far as marriage is concerned, because it is supposed to be a sacred union, there are many gray areas involved. Marriage is defined by religious spectators as a holy union between a man and a woman that is made before God. Its understandable for people with strong religious backgrounds to want to honor their beliefs by partaking in this union. However, forcing the beliefs that are held by Christians into the letter of the law is not fair to the certain Americans that are not heterosexual or Christian. When people that are against gay marriage speak on the issues, they rarely have any points that are not backed by Christianity. In a country that supposedly separates the values of the law and the values of religion, this is not right.

This all ties into the fact that America is supposed to be a place where you are allowed freedom and pursuit of happiness. This cannot happen if citizens of our country are forced to abide by laws that have a religious basis. Homosexuals, while their lifestyle may be different then the lifestyles of some heterosexuals, are still living, breathing people that should be allowed the same choices and rights. Keeping them from being married takes many things away from them. Not only can they not be legally bound to their partners by law, they can not share insurance policies, and have difficulty adopting children, among many other things. They are being stripped of their rights as American citizens by mixing “church and state”. At some point, we as citizens have to realize this is wrong and find a way to fix it.
